TOO MANY FISH IN THE SEA

I (Megan) think the only reason we should date is to find our husbands. But this usually isn’t our reason for being with a guy. Most of the time it is because a guy shows interest in us, which we feel hardly ever happens, so we jump into the relationship. And it helps if he’s nice and good looking too. What more does a girl need? But why do we do this? We know we aren’t going to marry this guy. But we think he is going to somehow fill that void in us, that desire to be wanted and loved. We think, Finally, somebody likes me!

I know that feeling all too well. It was the main reason I dated in high school. An attractive, godly, funny guy showed interest in me, and I jumped into a dating relationship with him. Ladies, hold out for that truly awesome guy who fits only you. There are plenty of amazing guys in this world, but I believe only one of them has been prepared and set aside for you by God. It isn’t bad to date. I honestly think dating makes a lot of sense if you are doing it for the right reasons. What I am saying is that we don’t need to jump from guy to guy in order to feel good about ourselves. In the end that will leave us empty because we give a piece of our heart to each guy we grow close to.

If you have a boyfriend, this is the time to evaluate your relationship with him. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

•Does he have a relationship with God and attend church regularly?

•Does he treat me like a princess?

•Does he pressure me into sexual acts?

•Does he respect me, my parents, and my friends?

•Does he treasure our time together?

•Are his friends involved in the right things?

•Does he pull me away from my friends?

•Does he believe in waiting until marriage to have sex?

There are many more questions I could add, but these are a good start and will help you know if the guy you are dating is worth your time and effort. If your boyfriend failed in one of these areas, please don’t think I am telling you to break up with him right away. But also, please do not overlook it. I am hoping these questions will give you an idea of how your boyfriend is treating you and if he has the qualities you want in a husband, which should be the reason you are dating him in the first place.
